⚠️ DRAFT — not legal advice. Have a qualified lawyer review before publishing.
This page is the public version of the internal standard in POLICY.md. Keep the two consistent.
1. What jokeslip is for
jokeslip sells gag gifts — small jokes you give to someone you know.
The whole point is the moment when a friend scans the code and finds something silly. Our rule for every decision we make is simple:
Would two friends laugh about this afterwards?
If the answer is no — if someone would feel frightened, humiliated, or deceived — it doesn't belong here.
2. Our content
Every image in our gallery is created or licensed by us. We do not host user-uploaded images.
We keep it to harmless, stylised, obviously-a-joke content. We deliberately do not sell horror, shock, gore, sexual content, or anything designed to frighten.
3. Your text — what's not allowed
You write the text on your card. Because that text is published at a public address on our domain, these limits apply.
Impersonation — the hard line
Do not write anything designed to make someone believe the code is from a real service or authority. This includes:
- delivery, courier, or parcel notices
- banks, payments, refunds, or account or security alerts
- government, police, tax, immigration, parking, or traffic notices
- prize, lottery, or "you've won" messages
- public Wi-Fi or login portals
This is the most important rule on this page. A joke card that looks like a real notice is not a joke — it is the same thing as a phishing attempt, and it puts every jokeslip user at risk.
Targeting people
Do not use jokeslip to harass, threaten, intimidate, defame, or humiliate anyone. Do not name a specific person in a way meant to hurt them.
Personal information
Do not publish anyone's personal information — names, phone numbers, addresses, workplaces, account numbers, or anything else that identifies a person.
Links
Do not include links or web addresses in your text. Your card links to our page and nothing else.
Everything else
No slurs, hate speech, or content attacking people based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or similar. No sexual content. No content encouraging self-harm, violence, or illegal activity.
4. How you use your card
Cards are for people who know you.
Give it to a friend. Put it on a colleague's desk. Send it to your brother. That's the product.
Do not stick codes in public places for strangers to scan. A stranger has no way of knowing the code is a joke, and cannot tell it apart from a malicious one. This is not allowed, even with otherwise acceptable content.
5. How we enforce this
- Text is screened automatically before your card is created. If it's blocked, we tell you why so you can edit it.
- Every card page has a report link. Anyone can use it, including someone who received a card.
- We can disable any card at any time. The link stops working and the page shows a short notice.
- Cards disabled for policy violations are not refunded (see Refund Policy).
Automated screening isn't perfect. Reports are read by a person.
6. Reporting
Use the report link at the bottom of any card page, or email [email protected].
If you received a card that frightened, threatened, or harassed you, please tell us. We want to know, and we will act on it.
7. Why we're strict about this
QR codes are increasingly used for fraud, and people are right to be cautious about scanning them.
A service like ours only gets to exist if it is unmistakably harmless. Every impersonation card, every code stuck on a stranger's windscreen, makes that harder — for us and for everyone using jokeslip properly.
So: keep it silly, keep it between friends, and make sure the person scanning knows it came from you.
